Chines garden

Chines residence – Rome, Italy

The design reflects the owner’s desire for a new space, contemplative and planted with native species.
The site, located outside of Rome, is set in a landscape of verdant hills, and is characterized by dramatic changes of level. The spirit of this place inspired natural, organic forms. The main path which flows through the garden is paved with stone in a dynamic, curvilinear pattern. It is also wide enough to serve as the driveway. A smaller, winding stone path leading to the house is planted on both sides with aromatic Mediterranean species. The intention is to offer a new experience when approaching the house while screening it from the property entrance.
To conserve water, the plan includes the installation of a rainwater harvesting system from the roof of the house. A series of rain gardens   helps to retain soil moisture.
